NCD 2019-2020 Ski Awards Announced

The National Capital District (NCD) of Alpine Ontario is pleased to announce its annual ski awards for the 2019-2020 season.  The annual NCD Ski Awards ceremony is usually held in the Spring, but it was not able to take place this year due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic mitigation measures.

“While the season ended abruptly, it is still important to recognize the efforts and successes of volunteers, coaches and athletes,” said NCD Chair, Mary VanBuren. “As we prepare with optimism for the season ahead, we acknowledge all members of our ski community for a great season last year. Congratulations to all who pushed out of a start gate or supported those that did.”

This year, an NCD Lifetime Achievement Award will be given out to Gerald Kukko in recognition of his decades of commitment to ski racing in the region. A former FIS athlete, Gerald has stayed involved and helped build a strong and supportive culture for racing in Ottawa.  “Gerald’s passion for volunteering took him from the timing shed to the forerunner’s gate.  No matter the task, he pitches in with good humour and a focus on putting on the best quality and safe race possible” said VanBuren.

The full list of winners can be found here.

The NCD represents Alpine Ontario athletes in the National Capital region, including those registered through Calabogie Ski Racing Club, Camp Fortune Ski Club, the NCO and Snow Cross Academy.
